I am a therapist who provides clinical services to children in two behavioral disabilities, self contained classrooms. My remarkable students each have a set of challenges often related to trauma or other behavioral health needs that impact their learning. Prior to Covid-19 students shared a plethora of sensory items to help them with calming themselves down and managing their frustrations. With budgets needing to be spent on supplies to help keep the students and spaces safe, it's difficult to plan for providing our students with access to items that help them learn, focus and self-regulate.
Please help me give each of my students their own sensory box and therapy tool kits. The boxes will contain items listed in this project as well as individual items the students create in their therapy sessions. The boxes will be easily sanitized and students will be able to rely on them as they seek out ways to manage their emotional needs. There are also items like a "body sock" that we can easily wash between uses and face shields to help students attend session who are uncomfortable in masks.
