With the gift of a tablet for each of my students, they will receive instruction in the completion of food preparation, shopping, academic, and vocational tasks. Each week, the students go into the community to shop for food preparation items to prepare selected dishes within the classroom. The students will use apps on their tablets to create shopping lists, check their change for accuracy, and view cooking videos showing them how to complete food preparation tasks. During classroom instruction, students will use the tablets to access individualized assignments for reading, mathematics, and science. Tablets will give my students access to an online curriculum that targets their unique academic needs. The tablets will also provide student access to calculator and manipulative apps to make math concepts accessible to them. To prepare for the world of work, tablets will provide my students with the ability to access and maintain employment within the community. Since my students have difficulty performing work tasks independently, tablets will provide them with apps to complete multi-step tasks and to manage time. Tablets will also provide them with the ability to send emails to job coaches and supervisors to ask for help and to request off when needed.
