In my classroom, we rotate through four Reading Groups a day. Right now, my students sit at a large hexagonal shaped table and they are all so far away! To point to a word in their book, or to hand them materials, I have to get up and walk around the table or slide things across the table. At this age level, it is essential for the teacher to point to word errors and other importance concepts in a text in order for a child to maximize their understanding. A new Kidney-shaped table would bring them all right up close to the teacher and cut down on the movement time. That way we can be more productive and timely. Being close to the teacher also brings students a great sense of closeness.
