These materials will allow students to connect to skills such as empathy, standing up for what's right, kindness, advocating, accepting, including others, and so much more! When my students see their cultures and same heritage represented in picture books they know that they can also exhibit these very important SEL skills! These picture books will be brought into the classroom to help deliver social emotional guidance lessons. As a school counselor, I am going to diversify my lessons and I will do this by starting with a school counselor library. As a campus, I am focusing on inclusion, advocating for ourselves and others, and managing emotions. When students are healthy emotionally, and have the social skills to manage conflict, then they are successful in the classroom and in their future careers/community.
