I would like to begin the literacy framework called Daily 5. This framework instills independence, creates a classroom of engaged readers and learners, and provides time to teachers to meet with student in small groups with individual needs. The authors of Daily 5 encourages teachers to create a classroom with flexible seating options. I would like to provide my students with a classroom that is warm, inviting and cozy. There has been research that flexible seating increases independence, focus and alertness. When students are active, they retain information better. So, when they are given choice in flexible seating, they are more motivated to learn when they feel comfortable.
