All students need access to language and academic content. A hard-of-hearing student often relies very heavily on lip reading in order to access what is being taught. When school opens, and everyone is wearing a mask, my students won't be able to see the teachers' lips at all. Even a person whose hearing is within normal limits process some speech information from sight of the moving mouth. Many people I've met say they can't hear when they're wearing a mask. I tell them that you're hearing is the same as always, but you are relying on lip reading. This is why I am asking for masks with clear mouths; to give my students access to the teachers' moving lips and access to academic content.
