I am a first year teacher getting ready for the upcoming school year, and I am so excited to get my students excited about science. We learn the best when we are having fun! All these models and kits will give students something to touch and feel and manipulate, which leads to better understanding of the concepts, and let's face it - nobody likes to read and copy from a book! These models will be integrated into 5E lesson plans (Engage, Explain, Explore, Elaborate, Evaluate) They are very useful to include into the "explore" section where students will be able to touch, feel, and manipulate the models to understand the anatomy and parts of cells, as well as layers of the earth, and see exactly how the solar system moves (theres a lot of moving parts!). These models and rock kits are to give the students more than just vocabulary to remember, they serve to give them an experience that will help them understand and make sense of the vocabulary and concepts. I will be using the science warm-ups book for the "engage" section to get the students attention at the very beggining of every class and to introduce the topic of the day. I will be using the buzzers to make review days fun with trivia, bingo, jeopardy, etc. There are other projects such as water filtration kit, solar panels, and laws of motion kits that will be used for demonstration and be passed around for the students to experience as well.
