As a language arts teacher, it is my responsibility to choose read aloud books that teach about prejudice, racism, anti-racism, acceptance, and tolerance. Sadly, my library is lacking high quality literature that addresses these topics. I also do not have any chapter book series with children of color as main characters. These books will help me start conversations with students about race, humanity, culture, inclusion, and kindness. I want to do more for my students by choosing purposeful and pertinent texts. If we are still learning from home, I will record myself reading the books and post a video with the text.
