These books will allow students to read about contemporary struggles that face many different types of Americans. They will be able to learn about the people around them, or maybe even see a little bit of themselves in the characters of these books. Students will be using these books to conduct a book study/club that will span from the beginning of the year to midterm. They will be instructed to create self-initiating groups to meet at specified times for book talks that will be guided by the teacher and students. They will also be looking at paired texts that support the essential question of this study: How do stereotypes influence how we look at, respond to, and understand the world?
