I teach a bilingual 5th grade class in an urban school in California. All of my students come from low-income families and qualify for the free and reduced lunch program in the school. They are all from immigrant families, and their first language is Spanish. Most of the group has been together since first grade, and they know each other very well. Our classroom has 15 boys and 10 girls. They are a very social and motivated group. They love reading and being read to. The boys and the girls are really into soccer, and they also love scary stories. Recently I discovered another one of their passions: singing, and I have started to incorporate that in some of my lessons more often.
