If students have the ability to pick where they choose to learn, they are more invested in their education. It allows them to consider their choice and weigh the pros and cons. For example, I can sit next to my best friend but I need to show the teacher that I am responsible enough to pay attention and take care of my responsibilities. Their ability to choose gives them control over their environment and makes them feel more comfortable and willing to take the chances that they need to be successful.
