Next year will be my first year teaching by myself and I'm excited to start fresh. I want to create a space for students to feel safe and excited about learning. The materials I'm looking for will help to greatly enhance their learning and engagement. I want my students to know that they are important and that I care about the work they're doing. Giving them good materials to work with and creating a classroom that is both functional and beautiful is the first step in showing students that they are valued and important. I have a lot of plans for these materials, many of which are creative projects to help students with their math and science skills. For math, being able to give my students the space and ability to demonstrate their understanding, as well as finding fun ways for them to learn about relevant concepts, is crucial. In science I plan to have students do group projects about ecosystems, force and motion, the solar system, and learning how to think like a scientist. These materials will make it possible for my students to do those kinds of tasks and projects to the best of their abilities and for me, as the teacher, to build a space where they feel confident in those abilities.
