Third graders have to use technology for learning and testing. In particular, they need touchscreen capability, and to develop their keyboarding skills while they learn. Old and failing iPads are not supporting my Special Education students' needs at this time. Currently I have one student, who can not manipulate a mouse at all, and three others who struggle, and four in total, who engage more with touch screen. Taking turns on my laptop is too time consuming, and not realistic. I saw how access to technology leveled the playing field for a few of my students last year from low income English as a second language homes. My population consists of diverse learners with diverse needs, who have shown that they are capable of handling devices such as iPads and computers. Parents also participate in learning and while their kids are in school now, can comment on work posted and approved in real time. COVID has already impacted attendance of a number of my students this year. The technology will help tremendously.
