Learning how to read is not easy. Many kids struggle and need lots of practice and support. My students get a fair amount of exposure to literacy at school with reading and writing centers, videos, a computer base learning program, and a strong phonological curriculum. However, many students do not get the same experience at home. To bridge the gap, I have been working on a DIY listening station. I record myself reading books and create a QR code for the books. I then print the QR codes and tape it to the books. With any phone, tablet, or computer my students can have any book in our class library automatically read to them! I have also found a host of printable activities to go with many of my classroom books. I plan to print literacy activies to send home with students to further enrich their experience. I am also looking to improve my center activities. Kids love working together in small groups. The activities in which I have selected are age appropriate and support our phonics curriculum.
