Our students are facing many hardships while learning from home, isolated from their peers and teachers, and dealing with the current turmoil in the world. One thing that brings my students together right now is getting lost in a wonderful book. Books are a positive beacon that allow children to grow and learn, not only as students, but as citizens of a multicultural world. The books I would like to purchase in this project reflect the many different cultures of students in my classroom, so that they know they are loved and cherished, and important members of our society. The books also are a tool that can be used for providing students a safe place to discuss hard topics around inequality. Over the summer I would like to continue posting read alouds for my students so that their love of reading does not dissipate, since many do not have access to books at home, and I will continue to use these excellent books in my classroom library in the fall.
