The innovative idea of flexible seating gives the classroom atmosphere a new twist. It excites and inspires me to add new options to my classroom.
There is power for a little one to select where he or she will work while a sense of community and cooperation is created in a classroom. It is a challenge to keep students engaged sitting at a desk. Some wiggle and squirm and turn upside down in their chairs. They want to be on the floor or have places to put their feet. Kiddos who prefer the floor will benefit from the two Surf portable lap desks for writing and enables them sit up in a comfortable position. A coffee table will let them be closer to the floor as well. I already have with fun cushions to sit on. The metal stools will grants more freedom for movement. The stool's cross bars on the legs will help give their feet support. A sofa table and two, safe stepping stool/seats will be a great addition for my taller kids or ones who wish they were. This higher table will also allow the option for students to stand which is surprisingly popular. These new ideas will continue to assist all of my students. Even those who are easily distracted or experience anxiety will have a chance to blossom with little redirection or behavior problems.
Last school year was my first attempt at flexible seating, but with minimal choices because of cost. I'm looking forward to more options for my first graders in the 2020-21 school year!
