Within my classroom, I try to create a comfortable learning environment. I have provided a microwave and refrigerator for student use. I never want any of the students that I teach, or the ones that come by for a visit to be hungry. Personally, I know how hard it is for me to focus if I am hungry. Studies show that children from homes that lack consistent access to food are more likely to experience developmental impairments in areas like language, motor skills, and behavior. I am asking for water and healthier snacks to give to students who come to class hungry. School should be a safe place for students. I believe this should include access to nutrients that they need to be able to function and use their bright minds.
