Students will benefit greatly by reading books written by authors with diverse backgrounds and cultural persectives that are different from their own. These books will allow students to dive deeply into the character's lives, to analyze critically, and to participate in discussions with their book club about thoughts and different perspectives. These third graders are growing up in a global world; they need to wonder, question and read about the struggles and successes of others. Through a book series format students will gain new perspective. They will become stronger citizens and develop empathy and acceptance of others. As we re-enter our school these resources will help to rebuild our reading workshop model and help to increase student reading stamina and engagement. In light of recent events these resources will shine a light on global citizenship and engage our reader's in diverse cultural perspectives.
