When I reflect back on my elementary years, I remember the excitement of opening a new book and reading it from cover to cover. I remember the anticipation of finishing books that were in a series, and being so excited to start the next one. I love reading and I hope to foster that love with my future students to help them grow into caring and productive citizens. As a teacher, I want to see that same joy and excitement on my students’ faces when they pick up a new book! I want to have a diverse library that suits the needs and interests of every student that walks into my class. I want my students to know that reading can be enjoyable and fun. Fourth grade is full of curious individuals, and they need resources that will help foster their sense of curiosity. This year will mark the beginning of my journey as an educator. I will be teaching fourth graders how to become masters of their learning. With students at various reading levels, a classroom library is an essential tool to helping grow students. Growing up, I did not have access to books at home, so I relied solely on the books available at school. I know that this could be the case for several students. I do not want the worry of students not having access to a good book to stop them from experiencing the never ending journey that books afford them. My goal is to use literature as a vehicle that allows students to not only be educated, but also encourages them to develop a love for reading. When my students open a book, I want them to embrace the many adventures they could experience by reading.
