Children's books can be mirrors (students see themselves in the books), windows (they help you see into the lives of others who are different from you), and sliding glass doors (you can walk into the story and become part of that world.) The books I have selected focus on diversity, family structures, race, socioeconomic status, other cultures and traditions as well as knowing your own value. It is so important that ALL of my students see themselves represented in our classroom library. These books will be used as a teaching resource for my students to understand and respect all cultures, races, genders and every ethnicity.
