My students are diverse and most come from limited income families with limited experiences. With these magazines, my students would benefit from the pertinent and engaging nonfiction content that Scholastic Magazines provide. A video link is also provided that helps introduce the content before the text from the magazine is introduced to them. There is also a vocabulary link to introduce important academic language from the content area to the students. After reading the magazine, students are able to use a highlighter to go back into the text to find important information that are key to their learning and area of focus. This benefits their comprehension. When answering the questions, students are encouraged to use the new academic language they learned to respond.
