Today, more than ever, it has become increasingly important to provide students with a welcoming and soothing atmosphere. For many, their hours in the classroom are the most comforting times they experience. Part of providing this important element is ensuring their physical space is desirable and inviting. Warmth, comfort, and flexibility are hallmarks of a positive learning environment. It is my great desire to adopt the concept of hygge into my classroom. Hygge is a Danish concept that means comfort, togetherness, and well-being. To start my classroom transformation, I would like to create flexible work spaces where students can move easily to collaborate, but can also separate for individual focus. Combined with soothing color choices and unique design, these manipulative desks will become the foundation of their learning space.
