After thinking about the books that make up my classroom library, I realized that only a small percentage of them have main characters who my students can identify with. I am unable to fix this problem without your help, as my school district does not have the funds to purchase these books. I have compiled a list of around 50 books that include main characters with diverse cultural backgrounds. My students deserve the chance to see themselves as the main characters in fiction books, and to learn about real-life heroes who look like them. These books will help my students feel confident in their own skin and encourage them to celebrate their cultural identities. In addition, it will allow them to continue cultivating their love for reading! Thank you so much in advance for supporting the success of my students!
