As a second grade teacher, I implement guided reading, guided writing, and guided math in my classroom. In the coming school year, implementing these techniques will be more challenging due to the restrictions in place because of Covid-19. With the students spending part of the week at school and part of the week doing distance learning at home, we need a way to keep the learning consistent while keeping everyone safe. The use of the tablets will allow me to still meet in small groups with my students while maintaining good distancing and sharing the least amount of supplies as possible. What will this look like in my classroom? I have recently purchased a license for Guided Readers, an online program where I can assign leveled books to students to read digitally on the tablets. The students will be able to read books out loud, record themselves, and then listen back to their recording for self reflection. These recordings can even be sent to parents so they are more informed on their child's progress. Comprehension and word work activities can be completed and turned in on the tablets, limiting the amount of times papers are passed between people and limiting the sharing of pencils and erasers. Guided math and guided writing can be done in a similar fashion, having anchor charts and worksheets uploaded on the tablets for students to complete. Having most of the classroom assignments completed on the tablets and on Google Classroom will allow students to be able to access their work, even when they are at home during their distance learning time.
