Now more than ever, students want to connect with each other and are nervous about how to make friends in a remote learning setting. A book club focused on new, contemporary books by authors of color can help fill the holes by providing exciting books and a place to discuss them. These books will go to students who want to discuss issues in middle level books written by authors of color. When you purchase these books, you facilitate a connection between students. Already 8 students have expressed interest in reading books that "aren't going to affect my grade" and so they "can talk about stuff people like me face, but without people knowing it's me".
