My students come from all over this world and have diverse backgrounds. We talk about race and racism in my class often and these conversations are important to have with our students. Students of color do not see characters that look like them in literature. I want to give them books where they are inspired and feel validated. These books will provide and wealth of reading materials where they can learn about the history of their culture and learn more about the culture of their peers. These books will help us have tough and important conversations about the world we live in.
