We are hopeful for a new classroom carpet for the 2020-2021 school year! Our current carpet has been used by many first grade students for the past thirteen years. It has been so loved, that there are many stubborn stains all over the carpet. There are also frayed spots in several different areas. Our carpet is located in front of our SmartBoard. We come to the carpet for morning meetings, reading and writing lessons, math, read aloud, and many other times throughout our day. My goal has always been to make each student feel safe, welcome, and loved. When students return in August, they will have been out of school for five months and most of them know why we were not able to finish this year at school. One way I can make my students feel safe is by maintaining a very clean classroom. With the old age of our current carpet, it simply does not look sanitary. Having a brand new carpet will help show my students that they are in a sanitary environment. The carpet I have chosen is similar to the one that is currently in our classroom. The layout of it helps each student have an assigned spot which makes for easy transitions. We change carpet assignments often to give each student a chance to sit close to me, close to the Smart Board, or any other preference they have. My students and I love the time we spend on the carpet because we get to share our thoughts and listen to others'. Our carpet is where we really build our classroom community.
