The mathematics courses that I have taught over the last couple of years; Algebra 2, College Readiness Mathematics, and Honors Pre-Calculus; are college-preparatory level classes for juniors and seniors, all of whom learn at a variety of levels. Our students must learn virtually now which makes the curriculum even more challenging and rigorous than it already was. With that, the materials that we use online must be of top quality if we want distance learning to be a success. A live document camera and digital writing pen will allow me to build more creative lessons and videos for my students, which will improve the quality of the instruction, whether virtual or traditional. Having this technology will allow me and my students to connect online as well as create material that can be shared digitally. Videos that illustrate visually and verbally specific problems being worked out step-by-step will differentiate the material for each student. Also, the digital pen can be used to convert handwritten notes to typed-text in a matter of minutes.
