I would like to add more multicultural books to my classroom so students can see characters that look like themselves and their classmates. I am a relatively new teacher and most of the books in my classroom library have been inherited from other teachers. Unfortunately, very few of the books in my classroom depict diverse characters. As the children in my class learn the First Grade curriculum, they are also learning who they are in this world and how they should treat others. I think having a more diverse set of characters on the shelves in my classroom library will be very beneficial to my students.
