I know every teacher thinks this, but I know it's true. I have the best students in the world! The students in my class come from all over our urban Illinois district to participate in our Developmental Learning Program designed for students with developmental disabilities. My students have autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD and many other disabilities. To paraphrase what a great teacher once told me, if you've met one child in my class, you've met one child in my class! No two children are at exactly the same academic or functional level in my classroom. Part of the adventure of my job is to make sure that each student is getting exactly the education that they need. Some of my students are learning to identify numbers and letters, and even learning to talk. Others are multiplying, reading on grade level and learning social skills and reading comprehension. My students love to come to school and work so hard every day. I owe it to them to encourage that infectious enthusiasm!
