My students can no longer return to their school this year. While at school, they actively participated in developing the necessary prekindergarten skills such as bilateral fine motor coordination, strengthening, hand/finger control, and sensorimotor experiences in order to successfully learn to cut, color, and write their names. Many of my students do not have materials in their homes let alone adapted loop scissors to help them learn how to manipulate paper and the simple act of snipping. Throughout our video sessions, I will need to coach parents on ways to encourage active student participation in developing these skills while at home. Strengthening, sensory play, scribbling, coloring, cutting, and drawing are all necessary skills for them to develop in prep for kindergarten.
