Help my students connect with the world around them by allowing them to receive a weekly Scholastic News magazine. My fifth graders will use this resource to learn about current events happening around the world, as well as reading articles on historic events, science phenomena, and geographic exploration. Each student will receive a magazine on Monday and will be expected to read the articles throughout the week. On Friday, we will discuss certain articles as a class and students will participate in various activities that will help develop reading skills such as making inferences and summarizing text. Students will also develop critical thinking skills and knowledge of applicable real-world events. Scholastic News is a standards-aligned and digital teaching tool. Each issue also comes with short, intentional videos, Teacher's Guides, meaningful activities, assessments, and learning games that launch powerful skill-building lessons that lead to inspiring, and memorable conversations. As a bonus, Scholastic also provides various reading leveled text, Text-to-Speech audio and ELL support.
