My students need a calming space for each child during our morning meetings and calendar time. Our classroom rug space is essential in first grade, so much learning takes place throughout the day on the rug. We use this space for morning meetings, math calendar time, read alouds, Smartboard activities, and general communication for students. A calming classroom space creates a sense of community and belonging with their classmates. This calming space will allow students to focus, learn, play, and grow together as friends. The classroom rug is a great classroom management tool, as each child has their own space.
