Countless research has demonstrated that music taps into many domains of brain cognition from motor skills to thinking. Playing a musical instrument involves counting symbols reading across a page and coordination which emphasizes knowledge in content areas of ELA and Math; learning across the curriculum. History and culture are also taught in band with different genres of music of which students perform. The lessons taught in class have positive student learning outcomes that emphasize and reinforce retention information when students countin, memorization, perform, and utilize motor skills. This helps improve brain cognition with retention of information in other content areas.
