Teaching diversity can be a difficult subject at the kindergarten level. So, by using these books, we can talk about how we are all different and need to be treated equally. My students can hear stories about children that had to live through different hardships just to get treated equally. After reading these books, it can help spark conversation about the students in my class. We would then discuss how we need to treat each other in our classroom and take that life lesson on with us. Explaining to the students that not everyone is treated equally today and that is our duty to change that. We need to make sure that everyone can have the same experiences and opportunities no matter what they look like. This is a passion of mine as a teacher to train them young on how to treat others.
