Having a choice can positively impact a student's view towards learning AND increase their willingness to work hard. Flexible seating is a huge yet simple way that can be very beneficial for students to take charge of their own learning! It allows them to make a choice to see the best (or most comfortable) way they can learn. Some students prefer to sit, others stand, and some even lay on their bellies. I want to be able to supply a classroom environment that enables ALL learning styles and caters to the movement needs that first graders have. During guided reading and independent work time, students are able to pick their just-right spot- chair, cushion, carpet, or desk- whichever best suits them best for that day. The items I have requested provide them with more choice. The cushions will be in the reading corner. The wobble stools will be used when doing our teacher-led guided reading station. The lap pads will allow students to sit on the carpet if they prefer that over their desk or allow for whole group activities to be completed during calendar or carpet time. These tools will be used every day by students in my classroom! I want to provide a classroom learning environment that makes every student feel welcome, safe, and comfortable so they are ready to learn!
