Sitting still at a desk while reading books in a new language (even the most interesting and engaging of books) can be a struggle for anyone, especially 11-14-year-olds. When sitting becomes a stumbling block to their learning and engagement, a variety of seating options will provide my English Language Development students a much-needed alternative to a regular desk or chair. My hope is that the Independent Reading Station of the the classroom will be a place and time they will be excited about going to each day as they acquire English and a love of reading!
