These books will provide students the opportunity to negotiate complex realities of identity and injustice. Providing books that address the diverse experiences of themselves and others will help my young activists grow their understanding of the world and help them promote beliefs that recognize the humanity of all. They will have access to the texts in book groups and for independent reading. In book groups, students will be asked to critically engage with their texts, using text evidence in their discussions. They will also be asked to engage in the writing process, generating original claims about their texts and supporting those claims via thoughtful and insightful essays.
