This project gives students the opportunity to have, in their classrooms, a select variety of books in Spanish and English that have a range of topics which allow the reader to experience different adventures and emotions. The fiction, non-fiction, narrative and informative books help to build the fluency of Spanish as a second language with cultural knowledge, as well as reading comprehension. The inclusion of books in Spanish and English gives students the opportunity to learn a language and culture that exposes them to the benefits of being bilingual in an academic way. We are the two Spanish teachers, and have almost 340 students combined in our classes, and they don’t have a library of Spanish books and resources to properly support them. As teachers, we want to give them the best, help them achieve their academic goals and help them build a firm foundation. My mother taught me that reading books is the best way to travel, learn culture and give your imagination freedom. Our students deserve to feel that experience and see that a book is more than printed sheets, but is the window to a world in Spanish.
