In my classroom, I impress upon my students that they own their education, that what they put into it is what they will get out of it. I also know that my students are at an age where they want to be as independent as possible, but they may not necessarily be given that opportunity in other areas of their lives. As a result of that, I try to provide my students with as much opportunity for choice as I can. One area where I give the most freedom of choice is our classroom library. I want my students to choose a book out of pure interest, and not necessarily because it is their level. So in order to encourage this process, I organize our library by genre and author, instead of by A.R. level. All books are still marked with their corresponding level to help students looking for a book that is a "just right fit". I would love to provide additional titles in my library, to give as much variety as possible and to keep my readers satisfied. I also want to have as many series available as I can. I know that readers are much more likely to keep interested when they have multiple stories within a series to explore. With your donations, my students will be given the opportunity to feel more in control of their own education. I wholeheartedly believe that when students are given choices, they produce better work.
