Play is an important part of the academic, social and emotional development of a child. Children develop friendships, learn rules, develop problem solving skills and develop eye hand coordination. Play at the moment looks very different for five year olds because of the coronavirus and the transitioning to virtual learning. Schools are not sure what classrooms and learning will look like going forward. Teachers need to be creative in designing safe and educational learning opportunities for students. Toys are great tools to help foster social and emotional development in children. Puzzles and blocks help develop children's fine motor and problem solving skills. These toys help to foster cooperative play where children can feel a sense of friendship and accomplishment . Puppets allow children to "voice" their imaginations and express their feelings while paints and craft materials allow children to be expressive and creative. By donating to this to our project, not only will you help to improve student's imaginations and problem solving skills, you will be supporting their social and emotional growth. Virtual learning has made it difficult for children to play with their classmates. Going forward, this project will afford children the opportunity to safely play and grow with their classmates.
