These items will help fill the void of basic necessities that our classroom desperately requires. Our school services many economically disadvantaged students in a rural area of Louisiana. Most of the students in this class are being raised by grandparents or other family members that are not their parents. These students simply need a loving environment that has the necessary materials to help them learn. They already have the loving environment; all they need now are the materials. Due to the students' learning disabilities, we need the basic necessities the most, as you can see from the Shopping List. The students also learn life skills in the classroom that we apply to community outings. Depending on their grade level, some of the students even go to local businesses to perform job skills. If you ever met these students, you would realize why I absolutely love being with them. Their teachers and aides adore them and will do anything for them. Most of the items in the classroom now have been purchased with our own money. Even though these students are at a great academic disadvantage, it doesn't stop them from wanting to come to school. Every day is a new day with these students. Every day is a different experience. But, in the end, that's what makes it so special working with them.
