As 5 & 6 year olds, my student are still getting used to the basic idea of sitting still in a chair. Who wants to sit still all day?! Even I feel the need to walk around the room so that I can stretch my legs. If I can’t sit still in one spot for an entire lesson I do not want my kiddos to do it either. I want them to be comfortable and be able to wiggle! Of course, at the same time they must be engaged in our phonics, math, and reading lessons. The best way to achieve this is to combine our needs together.
Even I can’t sit in a chair for very long!
Also, this coming school year is very uncertain. There is no telling what our schedule might be. If we must spend extra time in the classroom for social distancing then my students will need an outlet to move. This would be a perfect way for them to do that. To my students this will be a fun way for them to keep learning.
What they don’t realize is Wobble chairs promote positive posture. Positive posture promotes better blood flow to the brain, resulting in more oxygen to the brain and a more efficient brain so wobble stools promote learning. They also help strengthen muscles, coordination, and digestive systems. It helps students burn off excess energy and get the stimulus their muscles are looking for, making them more attentive in class. It is a win-win for both of us!
