Learning to read is so important in kindergarten. With a variety of books at different levels, students will have options to choose from when reading indepdendently during center time. I love bringing student to the rug for read alouds, calendar, and other learning activities on the Smartboard. The rug will not only provide a comfortable place to sit when listening to a story or participating in a lesson, but it will provide structure as each student will be assigned a particular spot on the rug and I will call student to return back to their tables by colored squared.
