Benefit- Hands on and visual effects of velocity and kinetic energy. In the past we have tried to place books together for ramps. Have you ever tried to drive somewhere and kept going over road blocks or detours. Yeah, that is what this is like. The ramps would make their "drive" so much smoother. By using the ramps, students would actually be able to calculate velocity/speed and kinetic energy. They could compare objects with different masses see if speed is affected. When calculating kinetic energy one variable is height, so this ramp with adjustable height would be able for students to see first hand the effect of the height. When we discuss the effect of friction, students could place different surface types on the ramp and compare the speed of an object on a variety of surfaces. We also could also place different textures on the ramps to see the effects of friction. Oh the possibilities. Thank you in advance!! My students in Physics and Physical Science would make great use of the ramps.
