In each ELA and Social Studies Lego build, a leading star (character) helps students verbalize the human elements expressed in bringing vocabulary to life, communicating a novel's theme, and even recreating a historical event. We see events through the eyes of people and in using Legos this last year, the greatest item requested by my students was different types of Lego people. Building a scene or recreating an event comes to life through the characters connected with these events. By having the Lego characters, students delve deeper into the descriptive process of story telling, adjectives, and event details. A simple figure allows students to consider more extensive perspectives and enriching vocabulary when thinking from that character's viewpoint. Help my students dive deeper into their Lego creations and communication of their builds with Lego leads!
