A classroom kitchen integrates dramatic play which is fundamental in kindergarten. Students build social skills, learn to problem solve, build oral language and literacy, and have the opportunity to role-play and use their imagination. Due to COVID-19, students have missed the opportunity to be in school and interact with other children. A kitchen is one aspect of dramatic (or imaginative/creative play) where children can read menus, write grocery lists, learn to cook, talk about family, socialize, count money, and more. Learning through play is engaging, important, and an essential building block of learning in kindergarten.
