As a first-year teacher, receiving a rug for my classroom would help me plan exciting lessons and activities that will elevate student learning in many ways. Right now, they sit on linoleum tiles that are hard and not conducive to learning. I believe students are more likely to focus and learn when they are comfortable and feel safe. I chose this particular rug for several reasons. First, the colors of this rug will provide a calm environment that is not distracting or overstimulating. In addition, each letter is individually boxed and will develop the students socially and emotionally as they practice personal spacing in their own, comfortable and safe, space. The images on each letter also allow students to grow academically by helping them recognize their letters, understand different letter sounds, and develop their initial letter sounds skills. Our classroom rug will make my students feel safe and comfortable as they develop as individuals, members of a community, and future scholars. This rug would be a gathering spot where we will hold morning meetings each day. Our rug will be a place where students can share emotions, ideas, and experiences. This will help students grow socially and emotionally alongside their peers. In addition to morning meetings, our rug will be used as a dancefloor for our brain breaks, allowing students to get their wiggles out and express themselves through movement. We will also hold read-alouds on our carpet to learn about various topics and achieve learning goals. Finally, our new rug will be an area of exploration through play, where students can build towers, practice math and reading skills, solve puzzles, and more.
