We have a program similar to Harry Potter Houses. When we do competitions it builds team building, bonding, and comraderie between all our Junior High students when most may not have access to that. I requested the materials to add to activities that are engaging and also show unity when representing their team colors. The team colors represent Guilds, which is in line with our school Pirates theme. Since we cannot afford to get shirts made, teachers are donating their time and efforts to make them ourselves. Each year we come up with money as a Junior High staff to do what we can to get this program running. I have students who have a sense of belonging when they don't have it anywhere else. I've seen a huge impact this program makes in our Junior High community where our students were hit really hard with the impact Covid had on social emotional well-being and academics. That sense of belonging is rebuilding students confidence and motivation to do better each day.
