I have 24 First Graders that aren't all able to regulate their emotions. It is a very hard thing to do, especially in a classroom with many other kids. We spend a lot of time modeling and explaining the tools they can use when their emotions ramp up. It isn't enough to just have them take a break. Many kids need something to help them be distracted from the trigger so that they can self-regulate at a more calm level. That way, they can get back to learning the best way they can!
